IPL 2024: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that Rishabh Pant is now fully fit for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. After a 14-month rehabilitation period, Pant has resumed practice and received clearance to join the Delhi Capitals camp. However, the BCCI has stated that pace bowlers Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna will not be available to participate in this season’s T20 league.
Rishabh Pant, after recovering from a near-fatal car accident in December 2022, resumed playing cricket a couple of months ago. He dedicated himself to fitness training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru (NCA) to prepare for the IPL.

IPL 2024: The BCCI Announcement
Rishabh Pant:
After a 14-month rehabilitation and recovery period following a life-threatening road accident near Roorkee, Uttarakhand on December 30, 2022, Rishabh Pant has been declared fit to play as a wicket-keeper batter in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Pant’s readiness for the tournament after he underwent surgeries and a rigorous strength and conditioning regimen. This announcement marks Pant’s return to professional cricket after a challenging period of recovery. His participation in the IPL is significant not only for Delhi Capitals but also positions him as a potential candidate for the T20 World Cup squad.
Prasidh Krishna:
A fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. Unfortunately, he will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Mohd Shami:
The fast bowler underwent a successful surgery on February 26, 2024, to address his right heel issue. Currently under the observation of the BCCI medical team, he has been declared unfit for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024 season.
The absence of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Shami from the IPL 2024 season could significantly impact their chances of representing the Indian team in the T20 World Cup that follows the conclusion of the T20 league. This setback poses a challenge for both players as they miss out on valuable opportunities to showcase their skills and form in a high-profile tournament like the IPL, which often serves as a platform for national team selection. Shami’s absence, especially, will be felt by his team, the Gujara Titans, as he has been a key player for them. This situation underscores the importance of staying fit and available for such crucial tournaments to secure a spot in the national squad.
