Following this, Sidhu advised Pandya to draw inspiration from the legendary MS Dhoni, known for consistently finding suitable replacements for injured or out-of-form players. He cited the recent example of Rachin Ravindra as a prime substitute for the injured Devon Conway.

The match at the Wankhede Stadium was a forgettable outing for the Mumbai Indians‘ batting lineup. After being put into bat first, they found themselves reeling at 20/4 within the first four overs, courtesy of a stellar spell from Trent Boult. Despite efforts from Hardik Pandya (34 off 21) and Tilak Varma (32 off 29) to stabilize the innings, they could only muster a total of 125/9.

In response, RR’s Riyan Parag’s unbeaten 54 off 39 balls guided the visitors to a comfortable six-wicket victory with 27 balls to spare. Akash Madhwal was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 3/20 in his four overs. The defeat has only intensified the pressure on Pandya, who continues to face criticism and jeers from the Wankhede crowd since assuming the captaincy role.
